The best outdoor venues in Sheffield

1. Sheffield Botanical Gardens

Sheffield’s Botanical Gardens are a stunning place to have a wedding. This outdoor space is more than just a green backdrop; it provides a truly unique and enchanting setting. From exotic plants to rare flowers, it’s an outdoor venue that will allow you to embrace and celebrate nature.

The ceremony takes place in the doorway of the glass Pavilions, built in the 1800s. You can then have a marquee in the grounds for the reception, or head to one of the many restaurants on Ecclesall road.

Visit the Botanical Gardens website.

You can also find the Botanical Gardens on our list of unusual wedding venues in Sheffield.

Wedding car pairing: There’s no perfect wedding car for a venue, so much as a perfect wedding car to suit you as a couple. However, an ivory Rolls-Royce convertible  would look beautiful against the backdrop of plants and flowers.

2. Stoney Bank Farm

Stoney Bank Farm is located outside of Sheffield’s city centre in the villages of Oughtibridge and Bradfield. You can experience a more rural outdoor wedding venue without leaving Sheffield.

The benefit of this venue is that you can manage as much of the organisation (or as little!) as you want. You can hire 1-3 fields for multiple days (to allow setup and pack down) or the organisers at Stoney Bank Farm can coordinate everything from a teepee to the bar service - and sort the tidy up too.

It’s a lovely outdoor wedding venue that provides space for you to have the exact wedding you want.

Visit the Stoney Bank Farm website.

Wedding car pairing: A blue classic-period Bentley is a stand-out but elegant car. It’ll certainly turn heads when you arrive!

3. The Mowbray

The Mowbray isn’t a fully outdoor venue, but it does have an open-air space if you’re looking for a venue with indoor and outdoor options.

The roof terrace at the Mowbray is a great option for arrival drinks and a spill-out space during your evening party. It’s a cultivated garden space, in which the venue grows herbs, for example. These are used in the food served in the Mowbray Kitchen.

The venue as a whole is perfect for Sheffield weddings as it captures the industrial history of the city. They can even provide Sheffield-made cutlery for the wedding meal.

Find out more on The Mowbray website.

Wedding car pairing: A 1930s Ford Hot Rod is a bold choice that would look great with the industrial, urban theme of this venue.

4. Weston Park Bandstand

Weston Park is in Sheffield’s city centre, close to the University of Sheffield. Weddings here can use both the Weston Park Museum and the beautiful park and Bandstand.

The Bandstand is a bright and open outdoor venue, surrounded on all sides by the charming grounds of Weston Park. It’s only suitable for small weddings, but if you want a larger event, you could always get married in Weston Park Museum and use the Bandstand for your photos.

Wedding car pairing: A 1930’s Regent Landaulette would complement the beautiful bandstand - the car is only slightly younger! Decorated with wedding flowers, it would look truly fantastic.

5. Graves Park

Graves Park is a fantastic outdoor venue in Sheffield for a wedding reception (it’s not licensed for ceremonies). It’s one of Sheffield’s biggest public park spaces and it even has a free farm open during the day to entertain any children at your wedding.

With lakes, woodland, a rose garden and open green spaces, it makes for a beautiful outdoor venue ideal for marquee weddings.

Find contact details on the gov.uk website: parks and green spaces for weddings.

Wedding car pairing: For an elegant and traditional look, a classic Morris Minor is a great choice. It can complement almost any wedding theme but would work particularly well for a woodland, outdoor wedding.

6. Norfolk Park

Norfolk Park is a beautiful outdoor wedding reception venue, very close to Sheffield city centre. It has picturesque woodland areas as well as green, open spaces that mean there are plenty of options when it comes to wedding photos! There are even spots with panoramic views over the city.

Norfolk Park isn’t licensed for wedding ceremonies, but is a fantastic choice for an outdoor reception. It’s close enough to Sheffield City Hall to be easy for your guests to get to should you get married there. (Don’t forget to hire a wedding car to travel from the ceremony to the reception in style!)

Wedding car pairing: An old-school Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II would look fantastic in the woodland setting, providing an extra touch of nostalgia and charm.

7. Ecclesall Woods Discovery Centre

Ecclesall Woods is the largest ancient, semi-natural woodland in South Yorkshire and a beautiful setting for a wedding. It stretches between Abbeydale Road South and Ecclesall.

The Ecclesall Woods Discovery Centre provides a base for your festivities - with an outdoor space that can be covered to provide an intimate wedding venue for the ceremony and reception.

You can get married beside the pond and with the trees as a backdrop. It’s idyllic, peaceful and beautiful.

Wedding car pairing: To complement the elegance and class of your outdoor wedding, a Classic Austin Princess Limousine would be perfect.

8 (bonus!): Yorkshire Wildlife Park

Yorkshire Wildlife Park isn’t a fully outdoor wedding venue in Sheffield - but it deserves a special mention. Based in Doncaster, a short drive from Sheffield, you can get married with the sound of lions roaring in the background!

You get full access to the wildlife park on your wedding day, and can choose three animals to feed, including red pandas, lemurs and giraffes.

They have a teepee package, so your wedding can be mostly outdoors, and it includes a night camping! They also have indoor options.

Wedding car pairing: A Mercedes S-Class for hire in Sheffield would let you travel to your venue comfortably. It’s a longer drive than some of our Sheffield venues, so it could be a good idea to choose something luxurious.

FAQs about outdoor weddings in Sheffield

Is an outdoor wedding cheaper?

Outdoor weddings can be cheaper than indoor, but it’s because they are often smaller or simpler than a big, traditional indoor event. For example, if you have fewer guests or use more DIY decorations. If you want a big outdoor wedding, it’s often a similar price to an indoor event.

What happens if it rains at an outdoor wedding?

If you’re having an outdoor wedding, you’ll need some kind of contingency plan should you have rainy weather. Most of the time, you will have a marquee, or similar, for the day. Some venues might include an indoor space that you can use instead.

Are outdoor weddings legal in the UK?

Yes, outdoor weddings are legal in the UK at licensed wedding venues. Before 2022, weddings had to be conducted under a permanent, covered structure, but this is no longer the case as long as the venue is licensed.
